 Non-Commercial Temporary Signage

 All non-commercial temporary signage (i.e, posters, banners, handbills, petitions, or other written materials) must clearly identify the author or sponsor of the signage.  By posting or distributing any non-commercial temporary signage on campus, the person or organization is responsible for the content of any such signage.

 Indoor Non-Commercial Temporary Signage (Refer to Policy 161 Section 4.11.1)

  • Any non-commercial sign, notice, poster, or banner posted on the UVU campus must obtain a stamped visible expiration date from Campus Connection, a date after which the sign, notice, poster, or banner may be removed, generally not to exceed 14 calendar days from the date of posting. Signs hung without approval will be removed and disposed of.
  • Due to the limited amount of available display space and preference for university-sponsored speech, the number of posters per event sponsored is limited to 50 for one month or 25 for two months. 
  • No more than one (1) flyer for any event may be posted on any single non-departmental bulletin board (other than boards maintained by an academic or administrative department within the university) or kiosk. 
  • No signs/fliers may be hung on painted walls, cement structure or cement walls, unmarked windows, bathroom stalls, machinery, fixtures, windows, doors, handrails, equipment fountains, statues, trees, buildings or portions of buildings, classrooms (soda machines, bank machines, etc.).
  • Non-commercial signs, notices, posters, or banners may be re-posted for an additional 14 calendar days, but only after it is shown that there is good reason for the sign, notice, poster, or banner to remain in place for a longer period which will then need re-stamped by Campus Connection.
    • Approved signage can ONLY be hung at designated bulletin boards and tack strips throughout campus.
      • Academic and administrative departmental bulletin boards do not need to have a Campus Connection stamp but are required to comply with the department’s published nondiscriminatory rules and procedures, including a procedure that all such items be date-stamped and otherwise identified as authorized by the department.  (Policy 161, 4.11.2.2)
      • Non-commercial signs, notices, and posters shall not be attached to non-bulletin board or kiosk locations, such as on trees, buildings or portions of buildings (including walls, doors, windows, fixtures), fountains, statues, equipment, furniture, machinery, or classrooms, unless otherwise expressly authorized by the Dean of Students. To request permission, please send an email to palmeral@uvu.edu and include the following information:
        • Posting dates
        • Reason for needing to post on the above-mentioned locations.
        • Event information 
        • No more than two banners may be posted for any upcoming event announcement, deadline, or event.  See Banners Procedures below.
          • No tape of any kind may be used for installation of signs, notices, posters, or banners.
          • For information on displaying digital signage on TV’s throughout campus, go to www.uvu.edu/ds.
    • Campus Connection requires a 24 hour turnaround time to process signage.

 Banner Procedures

  • No more than two banners may be posted for any upcoming announcement, deadline, or event.
  • Banner size no larger than 24 in. X 60 in. (2 ft. x 5ft)
  • You must talk to Campus Connection (SC106f, 801-863-8797) about the following information:
    • To be assigned a location where the banner can be hung
    • To give your index code for a $25.00 deposit
    • To give an e-mail of the contact person for your organization
    • Banners cannot be hung longer than two weeks prior to an event/deadline
    • Failure to remove banners after the event will have their $25.00 deposit forfeited.
    • Banners hung in locations other than those assigned will have their $25.00 deposit forfeited.
    • If your organization violates the above policy three times, your organization will lose the right to hang banners for a period of six months.
    • Campus Connection requires a 24 hour turnaround time to process the signage approval.

 Non-Commercial Handbills, Petitions, and Other Written Material (See Policy 161 Section 4.12)

Any person may hand out and distribute non-commercial handbills, petitions, or other written material throughout campus without prior approval, as long as the distributed materials clearly identify the author or sponsor of the materials, and subject to the limitations.

  • Handbills or other written materials may not be placed on, attached to, or affixed to personal property (including but not limited to vehicles) without the owner’s permission and may not be dropped or left on the ground or floors, fixtures, furniture, or in other areas in violation of applicable littering laws.
  • Handbills must be physically handed to a person or placed in designated kiosk. Campus Connection will identify the kiosks.
  • Distribution may not occur within classrooms, academic and administrative departments or offices, may not interfere with classes, and teaching or university activities related to teaching, may not disrupt the functioning or events of the University, and may not interfere with the rights of other members of the university community.
  • Distribution must not interfere with the entrances and exits of university buildings or the normal flow of pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
  • Limit 500 handbills per event.
  • Must adhere to ASD and Fire Code regulations

 Outdoor Non-Commercial Temporary Signage

 Lawn Signs

  • Lawn Signs may only be used to advertise an upcoming event or deadline held on a UVU campus or sponsored by university organizations or members of the university community, or to provide directions to such events.
  • Lawn Sign sizes are 24-inch by 18-inch corrugate sign installed with an H-stick.  Sponsors of such events must submit Lawn Signs to Campus Connection for placement and removal.  There will be a $25.00 fee assessed per event. Campus Connection staff install the lawn signs.
    •  Maximum of 18 lawn signs per event, 7 per location.
    • NO LAWN SIGNS ALLOWED ON ROUNDABOUT.
    • Campus Connection requires that lawn signs are submitted 24 hour turnaround time for approval processing.

 Outside Banner

  • Outside Banners may only be used to advertise an upcoming event or deadline held on a UVU campus or sponsored by university organizations or members of the university community, or to provide directions to such events.
  • Outside Banner sizes are 36-in by 72-in vinyl.  Must be able to withstand high winds.
  • No more than two banners per event unless approved by Dean of Students Office.
  • To request permission, please send an email to palmeral@uvu.edu and include the following information:
    • Posting dates
    • Reason for needing to post on the above-mentioned locations.
    • Event information 
  • A $25.00 fee will be assessed per event. 
  • Campus Connection requires that banners are submitted 24 hour turnaround time for approval processing.

 Sidewalk Chalk

  • Sidewalk chalk messages may be used on sidewalks in the Pope Science Courtyard and the SLWC Plaza but are not permitted on any permanent standing structures. All sidewalk chalk messages shall be removed by the end of the day. Individuals or organizations that fail to comply with the requirements may be charged an additional cost for any removal of sidewalk chalk.
  • Messages or slogans of any kind shall not be painted, hung, or otherwise written on trees, buildings, windows, sidewalks, grounds, fountains, walls, or other structures or surfaces, or on the personal property of others.

Commercial Temporary Signage (Refer to Policy 161 Section 4.11.3)

All commercial temporary signage must clearly identify the person or organization responsible for the content of the signage.  By posting or distributing any commercial temporary signage (i.e, posters, handbills, petitions, or other written materials) on campus, the person or organization (a) agrees to hold the University harmless for any assessed damages or liability incurred as a result of the signage; and (b) is responsible for the content of any signs, notices, posters, or banners it sponsors or posts on campus.

 Commercial Posters

  • Commercial organizations will be charged a $75 non-refundable fee to hang no more than five posters (not to exceed 8 1/2- inches by 11-inches) on the UVU campus for no longer than a 14-day period.
  • Any commercial poster posted on the UVU campus must obtain a stamped visible expiration date from Campus Connection, a date after which the poster may be removed. 
  • Posters must be hung in designated locations
  • Signs hung without approval will be removed and disposed of. 
  • No more than two posters for any event may be posted on any single bulletin board or kiosk. 

 Commercial Handbills, Petitions, and Other Written Materials (Refer to Policy 161 Section 4.13.1)

  • Commercial organizations may reserve a table to pass out fliers/handbills or promote their organization. Tables are available Monday –Friday from 9:00am-3:00pm through Event Services  801-863-8612The cost is $125.00 per reservation and may only be made three times a calendar year per organization. Organizations must request to reserve a table 14 days in advance. Locations are the Student Life Wall across from the Bookstore in the Sorensen Student Center and the Lockhart arena concourse.

    • Commercial organizations seeking to recruit potential employees should work through the Career Development Center. http://www.uvu.edu/cdc/

    • Commercial organizations seeking to participate in an athletic sponsorships should contact the Athletics Department. http://gouvu.com

  • Commercial handbills may not be placed on personal property, including cars. Commercial handbills must be physically handed to a person or placed in designated kiosks. Campus Connection will identify the kiosks.
  • Any person distributing commercial handbills or written material shall be personally responsible for the content of handbills or written material and hold the University harmless for any assessed damage or liability incurred as a result of the distribution of the handbills of material.

Appeals

Any person seeking to appeal decisions made pursuant to sections 4.8-4.14 of Policy 161 such as the denial of a request to post signs, notices, or posters; the removal of signs, notices, or posters by university staff; the assessment of damages caused by protests/demonstrations; the denial of permission to erect a structure or restrictions placed upon a structure's permit; etc., may do so by submitting the following form within five business days of the adverse decision.
