Belinda Han

Belinda S. Han, MA

Director

Ms. Han grew up in San Diego, California as the oldest of 7 children (5 brothers and 1 sister). She moved to Lehi, Utah while in high school and graduated from Lehi High. After high school, she attended Snow College and UVSC. At UVSC she was involved with ASUVSC (now called UVUSA), the Volunteer and Service-Learning Center, and many other campus organizations. While in college Ms. Han discovered her love for the outdoors and spent several summers and winters working in the mountains (which helped to pay her way through college). She graduated from UVSC in 2004 with a Bachelor’s degree in Behavioral Science and was quickly hired full time in a non-profit organization. She spent 14 years working in the non-profit sector serving in the areas of fundraising, marketing, recruiting, training, outdoor education, volunteer management, and program development. And, she spent 3 years as a 5th grade teacher. Ms. Han completed a Master's degree in Organizational Leadership at Gonzaga University in August of 2014 and is planning on completing her doctorate in education, with an emphasis in Interdisciplinary Leadership, from Creighton University in December 2017. 

Ms. Han joined the CAL team in 2011. She has been married to Jerod Han, from Las Vegas, since 2007 and is the proud dog mom of two miniature dachshunds Doc and Pepper (like the drink Dr. Pepper).

Amy Harmer, Assistant Director

Assistant Director

Amy joined the Center for the Advancement in Leadership team (CAL) at Utah Valley University (UVU) in March 2017.

Amy earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Sonoma State University. During her undergraduate experience, Amy studied abroad in Copenhagen, Denmark for 9 months. After graduating from Sonoma State, Amy served a volunteer mission at Temple Square in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Upon returning from her volunteer experience, Amy worked with children and adolescents with special needs. As a behavioral interventionist, she primarily helped clients with Autism and Down Syndrome.

Amy earned her Masters Degree in Public Administration-Public Policy at California State University-East Bay. She served with CSU-East Bay’s Student Housing & Residence Life team for 5 years.

Amy attributes much of her passion for leadership to a non-profit organization, EDGE Youth Leadership. Amy has been volunteering with the organization since 2004 and currently serves on the Board of Directors. 

Some of her favorite people, places and things include family, friends, leadership, diversity, fitness, service, food, faith, education, travel, baking, EDGE Youth Leadership, technology, manicures, the Bay Area, Denmark, music, languages, and sleep.

Shawn

Shawn Nielsen

CAL Coordinator

Born and raised in central and southern Utah, Shawn graduated from Richfield High School in 2005, specializing in both the academic (speech & debate, student government, theater) and the athletic (football, weight training).

After an LDS mission to Mexico City from 2006-2008, Shawn received a dual Bachelor of Arts in 2012 from Southern Utah University in Cedar City with a double major in Psychology and Spanish. While at SUU he worked full time, conducted research, and even ran a student club.

After an initial year-long start in UVU Human Resources, Shawn has transitioned over to the CAL office to support the CAL staff, the L.E.A.D. program and manage the details and flow of the CAL office.

Shawn is a sports fan, armchair historian, music lover, video game hobbyist and grilling enthusiast.

He and his wife Kaelee (also a UVU employee) live in Provo with their dog Radar.

Mark Slik

L.E.A.D. Program Coordinator

Mark Slik comes to us with a plethora of experience in leadership. He spent 28 years in the US Air Force traveling the world and the United States. During that time, he has had the chance to work with and mentor people from a variety of cultures and backgrounds. In those journeys he discovered that everybody has the ability to be a leader; they just need a mentor along the way. He finished out his military career as an assistant professor for Utah Valley University in the US Air Force ROTC department. In addition to his experiences as a military officer, Mark served as a training board member for a public charter school and was an assistant principal for a middle and high school. His passion is helping others achieve more by working together. He is married to his best friend, Debbie Slik, and they have 3 children.

Jill Memmott

Jill Memmott

Resident Leader

Jill grew up in Tremonton, a small town in Northern Utah,  and graduated from Bear River High School. Upon graduating high school, Jill went on to attend Utah Valley University and join the L.E.A.D. Program. She graduated with the Engaged Learning University Distinction in Leadership in 2012 and has been involved with The Center for the Advancement of Leadership either as a housing scholar, team leader, or employee since 2010.

Jill graduated in April of 2014 with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication with an emphasis in Public Relations from UVU. She enjoys camping, sewing, attending the theater, and especially spending time with her husband and son.

Ammon Kenner

Ammon Kenner

Resident Leader

Ammon grew up in Southeastern Minnesota. He moved to Utah and attended school at Utah Valley University where he graduated in December 2015 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. While at UVU he served as a program director on the service council where he provided after school activities for autistic teenagers. He has also worked with teenagers and college students through the Especially For Youth program which is a summer youth camp. He was involved in multiple capacities at EFY including Field Coordinator which is someone who runs sessions of up to 1000 youth. He loves continuing to work with students as a resident leader here at UVU. He enjoys going to concerts, hitting the gym, and spending time with his wife Morgan.

Devin Halvorson

Devin Halvorson

Student - CAL Office Assistant

Devin grew up in Springville, a city just south of Orem, and graduated from Springville High School as a proud Red Devil. Upon graduation he went on to study a year at Utah Valley University before leaving to serve an LDS mission to Santiago, Chile from 2012-2014 after which he returned to take up his studies at UVU

Devin is currently studying to receive a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science with minors in Spanish and Latin American Studies, with an anticipated graduation date of spring 2018. While at UVU he has also formed and runs a student club that focuses on service in the Latino population.

Devin is an avid outdoors-man and loves to go backpacking through Utah’s varied landscapes to enjoy the beauty of nature and reflect on life.

Marie Dvorakova

Marie Dvorakova

Student - Office Assistant II

Marie was raised in the Czech Republic and moved to the United States in 2012. She lived in Maryland for a year as a nanny. She then attended LDS Business College in Salt Lake City, where she received an A.A.S. degree in Business and a Certificate of Accounting. She enjoyed her time working at the Financial Aid Office as a team lead, and really loved helping students. After graduating in 2016, she took a year off and worked as a flight attendant. She was based in Denver, Colorado for several months. Currently a student at UVU, Marie is working towards her bachelor’s degree in Human Resources.

Marie enjoys working with people, especially students. She is an aviation and travel enthusiast and hopes to someday visit all the islands of Hawaii.
