Utah State Board of Regents selects Astrid S. Tuminez as Seventh President of UVU

The Utah State Board of Regents has selected Astrid S. Tuminez as the seventh president of Utah Valley University—and the first female president in the university's history. Tuminez, who currently serves as Regional Director for Corporate, External, and Legal Affairs in Southeast Asia for Microsoft, will assume the position this fall.

Student headcount numbers released, UVU remains largest public university in state

For the fourth year in a row, Utah Valley University is the largest public university in Utah, with a headcount of 39,931 students enrolled for the 2018 fall semester, according to data released today by the Utah System of Higher Education. The data shows the student population has grown 7.1 percent since last fall. Full-time equivalent enrollment has increased 6.1 percent, with a current population of 26,573.

Tererai Trent inspires UVU community to fight for their dreams at Presidential Lecture

Dr. Tererai Trent inspired the Utah Valley University community  Wednesday to fight for their dreams. Dr. Trent grew up in a small rural village in Zimbabwe, in a hut with no running water or electricity, and it was in this context that her dreams took shape. Despite poverty, war, and illiteracy, she speaks of a strong cultural setting that opened her mind to possibilities.

Utah Valley University’s automotive department had several objectives in mind when it decided to exhibit a vehicle in the Specialty Equipment Market Association show in Las Vegas Oct. 31 to Nov. 4. The University met and exceeded those expectations, according to professional-in-residence Jeff Holm, who led a team of students there.

UVU partners with Bottega to launch Web Development and Coding Academy

The UVU Center for Professional & Continuing Education, in partnership with Bottega, Inc., are launching a full-time Web Development and Coding Academy Certification Program, beginning October 9, 2017, and running through January 14, 2018.





Astrid Tuminez begins official presidential duties at UVU

A teenaged Astrid Tuminez first saw snow from the Jesse Knight Humanities Building at Brigham Young University. It was unlike anything she’d seen — or expected.

“I didn’t know what snow was and I always thought that ice was ice cubes, so I always thought when the first snowfall came it would be ice cubes coming from the sky,” Tuminez said.

Utah County has remained a special place to Tuminez since she first arrived at Brigham Young University as an undergrad. And starting Monday, she is officially part of the legacy of Utah Valley University.


Selected in April to follow former UVU President Matthew Holland, Tuminez officially started her duties as UVU president Monday. She is the institution’s first permanent female president and its first president who is a racial minority.




Woodbury Art Museum delves into realm of comic books with interactive exhibit

The world of comic books is intricate and complex, rooted often in mythology and history, but set in more modern times. Heroes and villains take center stage, with a battle for the ultimate good depicted through the incredible talent of top comic artists.

And now you can step into that world and literally play a role in it thanks to a new exhibit at Utah Valley University’s Woodbury Art Museum, a project headed by Chad Hardin but made possible by 12 different contributing artists.




UVU culinary chairman wins national chef award

Chef Todd Leonard, Utah Valley University's Culinary Arts Institute department chairman, was named the 2018 National Chef of the Year at the American Culinary Federation national convention held in New Orleans July 14-19. Leonard beat out four other regional winners.

As part of the rigorous competition, Leonard had 90 minutes to prepare a four-course menu. Assisted by two student apprentices, AnnaLis Nielsen and Lydia Harris, Leonard finished just seconds before his time expired. The judges, all master chefs, then huddled and compared tastes, presentation skills and sanitation scores.
